I.  Event Spotlight
1. EF Retreat – 2 June 2018

With a view to gauging members’ views on Foundation’s directional and strategic issues and reflecting on our mission and vision, about 50 members participated the Retreat to discuss and share their valuable opinions on the future development of the Foundation.

In April 2018, an online survey was designed to collect members’ feedback on topics in which they were interested and the following five topics were chosen:

  • Two Schools, Through-Train
  • School Plus
  • Membership and Succession
  • Education Development
  • Chinese Language and Culture

In the Retreat, EF members discussed in groups according to the Update and Discussion for 2018 Retreat.

Many inspiring ideas were generated in the Retreat and new members have been recruited to support key projects, including School Interface, Membership Reform, Chinese Language & Chinese History Education, Positive Education, Philosophy for Children and Parent Education.

The summary containing views and suggestions presented by different groups was issued to EF members for reference on 9 July.

2. Mission to Shenzhen – 25 May 2018

A total of 31 members and friends of the Foundation had a rewarding trip to Shenzhen. They visited Tencent’s Shenzhen Headquarters, DJI, UBTECH and ebpoo to learn more about the latest developments of high-tech enterprises in Shenzhen.

3. Visit to WWF Hong Kong Hoi Ha Marine Life Centre – 7 July 2018

34 EF members, friends and their kids visited WWF Hong Kong Hoi Ha Marine Life Centre, through doing half-day hands-on activities, to experience and explore the marine environment, marine life in Hoi Ha Wan Marine Park and learn the importance of sustainable lifestyle.

4. Dinner Talk – 21 June 2018

Professor Doris Cheng Pui Wah, Acting Dean & Professor of the Tung Wah College, gave a lively talk on how teaching and learning through play can guide and help children’s learning and development, the role of learning through play in the 21st century and its relationship with quality education.

5. 2017/18 Life & Career Education Mentorship Project

This is the sixth year when EF organized the Life & Career Education Mentorship Project (“LEAP”) for S4 and S5 students, aiming at facilitating students to understand better the appropriate attitudes and ethics needed in the work place, workplace culture, and preparing themselves for future career development.

November 2017:  A 3-hour Briefing Session conducted by Ms. Vivien Pau, EF member and a professional leadership coach, for Mentors and teachers January - April 2018: Mentors shared with students their personal experience in career advancement, goal setting and life direction
Students visited their Mentor's workplace to gain first-hand experience of real working environment and business operations May - July 2018:  Each student group from the 9 participating schools shared their learning experiences with their fellow students

6. FAPSA Conference – 7 to 9 July 2018

The Foundation has formally registered in the Federation of Australasian Philosophy in Schools Associations (FAPSA) as an Associate since February 2018. Mr. Mak Chai Ming, Convenor of Philosophy for Children Project Team, was EF representative to participate at the FAPSA Annual Conference “The Future of Philosophy in Schools” in Perth in July 2018.

7. HKUGA Primary School : Seminar on Positive Education – 24 May 2018

The Positive Education consultant, Professor John Hendry, delivered a seminar titled “Enriching Positive Education into the School Culture” at the Primary School. The seminar described practical ways of “living”, moment-to-moment, the tenets of Positive Education to benefit students and staff educationally and for life. In particular, it explained how “resilience” was a critical marker for health and well being, and subsequent contribution and achievement in life.

Our Foundation members including Mrs. Annie Chu, Dr. Lai Kwok Chan, Mrs. Fanny Lam, Mrs. Mabel Lee, Mrs. Brenda Lo, Dr. Victor Ng, Ms. Brenda Pong and Mrs. Wong Sze Lo Sai also attended the seminar.

8. HKUGA College : Professor Jao Tsung-i Memorial Sharing Session – 5 July 2018

Apart from teachers and students, our Foundation members and members of Chinese Language and Chinese History Education Project Team joined and supported the Memorial Sharing Session.
